Up Next: ROAN @ THE GATES

I'm excited to announce that my next show will be Roan @ The Gates with Central Works. I'll be playing the role of Roan opposite Jeunée Simon in this fast-paced political thriller, written by the Christina Gorman and directed by M. Graham Smith. It opens July 20 and closes Aug 18 at Central Works in Berkeley.

“If the government can access our information, they can get to you, they can get to a CEO; they can get to a Presidential candidate. What’s being collected and stored is not information; it’s leverage.” Could you still love your partner if she followed her conscience but kept you in the dark? A long-time couple confronts questions that they never thought to ask as their marriage collides with national security.

It has been such an absolute pleasure to work on this hilarious, absurd little show with such a talented group of artists! We've only one weekend left and tickets are selling out quickly! Part of what makes Melrose’s staging so perfect is the attention to detail, starting with the simplest possible set, which is all that’s needed: a trio of orange wall panels, a black leather couch and two leather chairs.

In addition, the actors’ every expression, gesture and movement are precisely coordinated in this very physical show, from Rogers’ mincing trot and tiny, strained smile to Nolan’s juggling and magic tricks (an inspired add-on to the antics) to the chaotic penultimate scene in which the characters resemble wind-up toys run amok, standing upside down, somersaulting, spinning like tops, screaming banal aphorisms, batting each other with sofa cushions.
